Covid-19 Relief

South Africa went on lockdown due to Covid-19 at the end of March. Since then Mercy Air has postponed multiple outreaches throughout Mozambique, South Africa, and eSwatini due to closed borders. While we continue to await government permission to fly again, we have temporarily changed our motto from “Wings of Love to People in Need” to “Wheels of Love to People in Need” and have changed our focus to providing food to those in our province, Mpumalanga.

At the beginning of April we transformed our helicopter hangar into a warehouse for making and distributing food parcels to the needy in our area. What started off as a small project has transformed into making and delivering around 200 food parcels per week. Many of the recipients are child-headed households and feeding centers in townships. It has been amazing to see other local organizations, supermarkets, and individuals partner with us to provide food to those affected by the lockdown. Although we cannot wait to return to our previously scheduled aviation outreaches, we are blessed to continue helping those in our area.
